Born in Padang, West Sumatra in 1954 and trained at the Jakarta Institute of Art under Siaw Tik Kwie, Rudolf G. Usman's watercolors are prized parts of many museum and private collections. He has exhibited in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Korea, Taiwan, Australia and the Netherlands and is a co-founder of the Indonesian Watercolor Society... Although working primarily in watercolors, Usman does resort to a variety of mediums in his paintings creating atmospheres and nuances in the way different materials interact on his canvasses.
